Finding Your Passion

Being committed to some goal in your life - a sense of having a mission, a purpose, even a calling - is a very motivating, very comforting thing. Some people's mission steps up to greet them, others have to hunt theirs down.

Motivation that comes from inside is the first key ingredient to every successful endeavour. Encourage yourself to find out what thrills you, what suits you, what brings you pride.

Do the things you love to do and are passionate about, then you'll have few regrets. Conspicuous success or public acknowledgement for these things may or may not come, but it won't trouble you much either way because you'll be happily enjoying yourself.

Nobel Laureate, Francis H.C. Crick, co-discoverer of the formula for DNA, rated his enjoyment of work as the characteristic most responsible for his remarkable success, and he placed this ahead of 32 other possible factors.

What intrigues you? What questions about any aspect of life or the universe absolutely enthrall you? There's your direction!

Although we cannot map out lives in advance, much can be done to make desirable outcomes more likely. Acquiring an exceptional ability is one such outcome.

Find yourself a purpose in life and then don't let that be muddled or overshadowed by the hurly-burly of day-to-day events.

I have endless get up and go for the things that I enjoy.

Be open to discoveries. Don't have too fixed a notion of the path, but rather have some idea of the kind of things that most appeal to you.

Go after your dreams - let them lead you. It's your chance of profound happiness.

A strong curiosity and the ability to enjoy whatever you are doing, are a huge help in life.

If there are two vital elements in life, they are determination and enthusiasm. Of these two, enthusiasm is probably more important because it's so infectious and people can't help but respond to it. What are you most enthusiastic about?

I have endless get up and go for the things that I enjoy.

You've got to fight against the urge to try to say and do what other people want of you. That's not how you earn their respect. They will most respect you for thinking and doing what they didn't think of, what they didn't dare.

Your accomplishments will bring great pride and joy to your closest friends and family, but in the long run it will hurt all of you badly if you've done it only for them. You have to do things for the passion in your own heart.

Own up to what you most want out of life, and then work out the most positive and direct way of getting it. Ask yourself "What activities could I not live without?"

Recognise your passions - recognise what you like to think about, what you like to read about out, and what you do with your own free time. That's powerful stuff whatever it is, so don't dismiss it, it may hold the key to your future.
